It’s very rare when you can pair a red wine with soup, however Pinot Noir works very well in this case. Pinot Noir has a light body and a forest floor/earthiness about it that goes remarkably well with the sweet leek and earthy potato flavours found in the soup.
In particular, the autumn spices in an Oregon Pinot Noir work exceptionally well, and are remarkable when served with the soup on a crisp fall day day. If there’s bacon in the Potato Leek Soup, this wine pairing is even more delicious.
