Almonds (whether eaten alone, or in an almond desert) and desert wines are to die for.
You can’t go wrong with Almonds and sherry, particularly a Manzanilla or Fino Sherry, as these types of sherry have a nutty quality to them. On a similar note, my favourite treat around Christmas time is chocolate covered almonds and a 20 year tawny port.
Sparkling wines, particularly Prosecco, and almonds is another fine match. The sparkling wine brings out a lot of pleasant flavours in Almonds, particularly if they are unsalted. Most of the time you won’t have almonds on their own, but hey’ll be in a fruit cake, or with dried fruit, or accompanying a cheese tray, again with figs, and dried fruit. Hence sherry and sparkling wine are safe bets.
